S'lichot
Poems on the High Holy Days stress the relations between ordinary and sacred time, our primary acts of t’shuvah, and the basic rhythms of the Jewish lunar year, They echo the liturgy with new vibrations as the poets probe our connection to Jewishness and the relation between the individual and the community. They also define the Days of Awe against the practices of other cultures---and thus give Jews a sense of their own uniqueness.
19th and 20th century works selected from the works of Penina Moise, Emma Lazarus, Celia Moss, Charles Reznikoff, Harvey Shapiro, Linda Pastan, Adrienne Rich, others.
